How to make your crocheted booties last longer

  • door

We all know what it’s like, right? Crocheting slipper booties is just cool. They’re a nice item that you can use daily and while not everybody may love granny squares ALL THE TIME, ALL OVER THE PLACE, everybody loves some warm boots come winter. So you spend a couple of weeks crocheting booties for your loved ones. They love them, they love you – love, love, love all around, and the next thing you know the soles have worn out and the boots get tossed in the bin.

The fact that a lot of boot patterns tell you to make the foot and the sole in one piece also doesn’t help; that way you can’t simply replace the sole and reuse the rest. A complete waste of time, yarn and energy, if you ask me! So much of a waste, in fact, that I couldn’t stand for it any longer. And so on behalf of all the unraveling booties in the world I present to you:

Want to start at the beginning? State of the Garden, 09-07-2014

So I told that story – sans the Godfather part – to some of my friends in an app-group we share. One of them, also exasperated with her square garden, asked me and a third friend how we keep up; how we fight back against the seemingly neverending shit storm of fungi and caterpillars and snails and lice and other dark mysterious evil we can’t control.Lees verder »Is an urban garden in autumn worth the trouble? 09-21-2014: fight back edition

Total cost: 8 euros – How to build smart garden constructions for almost free

A repurposed garden doesn’t have to mean an ugly garden! I made all the structures in our garden for a banging grand total of 8 euros (10 dollars) and I think they look pretty nice. The key is to be consistent with your materials and techniques, so that the structures go together somewhat and it doesn’t end up looking like one huge mess. Always keep the big picture in mind to avoid chaos on the detail level. But then that’s true for most things in life.
And now I sound like a promotional speaker on a leadership 2.0 congress.

Anyway, here are my garden projects for your viewing pleasure!Lees verder »Total cost: 8 euros – How to build smart garden constructions for almost free

How to be cheap while looking expensive: yoga

How would you like to get fit, happy and strong and have a daily workout tool in your home – for only 10 euros (13 dollars) a MONTH?

Disclaimer: If this sounds like the start of an endorsement post, rest assured that it is not. As far as I know, the woman who runs the yoga site I’m talking about isn’t even aware that I exist. I’m just really excited about a great force of good in my life…and I want to share with you!

This is how, for the past six months, I’ve been following 3-4 top notch yoga classes a week for an amazing weekly cost of 2,50 euros.Lees verder »How to be cheap while looking expensive: yoga
